A Variety of Pictures

Image
March 30th (Sheya’s mom writing:   Sheya and Jason are now back at work for another two-week shift, and Sheya asked me to post these pictures that didn’t quite make it into her latest writings.) Over the past while Sheya and Jason have had some interesting encounters with a marten.   The view from their new home, Ron’s house, continues to present different scenes.   Sawmill Mountain, which used to have a ski hill on it back in the days when Ocean Falls was a booming sawmill town, can be seen on the drive in to Ocean Falls from Martin Valley.   On the side of the mountain there is a certain location where the local residents look to see a well-known face.   Can you detect it in the following picture?   If you are like me, you might have been able to see several different faces in the mountain, or at least parts of them, but did you see Bernard Shaw? Bernard Shaw is in the lower portion of the yellow circle, and then ...

A Mix of Weather

Image
March 2nd – 16th On this last two-week shift we had a lot of mixed weather.   Many nights it snowed, and then it would rain through the day.       It was wet and around two degrees most of the time, but we did have several beautiful days of sun.   By our last sunny day on our shift we had sunshine from 09:30 – 15:35; what a change from one month ago.   On one of the sunny days we had a heavy shower pass through, and as it passed us by a beautiful double rainbow appeared.   Another sunny day we had snow pellets falling for at least an hour while it was sunny.   It was very pretty.   The light in the distance is from the reflection from inside our house. Although we had fresh snow again just a few days ago, spring really is on its way.   The crocuses are up, and when I looked back to my pictures from last year, it seems that they are up at almost exactly the same time.   We are now really looking forward to our two...

Another Move and Our New Bikes

Image
February 16th – March 2nd We had the last two weeks of February off of work, and we decided that it would be a good time to move houses.   We had to be out of Ken and Shelly’s house by April 1 st because they were going to be renting it out to some contractors who were coming in to work on the dam, and we wanted to give them extra time to do some projects in the house.   We made the move over to Ron’s house over a two-day period, and we had to carry everything down the 27 stairs from the road to the house.   The majority of our stuff turned out to be food items, including a fairly well stocked freezer.      Ron's house with the 27 steps at the right of the picture. Side of the house with the back porch for wood storage. The house from the road. The first night that we spent in Ron’s house, our new home, we were pleased to find that the shower had good pressure, the bed was quite comfortable, and the fireplace worked great.  On our first day in ou...

Our Coldest Weather Yet

Image
March 16, 2021   Looking back I see that it has been six weeks since I last wrote, and since we work two weeks on and two weeks off, and at the time that I last wrote we were just going back to work, we have now worked two shifts and had one chunk off.   We just finished our last day of our March shift today.   On our February 2nd to 16th shift we ended up having our coldest spell of winter weather and had sustained lows down to minus 10 with out-flowing winds bringing the wind chill down to minus 22.   It was a cold time at work, but also enjoyable as it was dry and very neat to see all of the ice formations.     We left the water running out of every hose, pipe, or tap so as to prevent the lines from freezing and so many cool ice formations formed.       February 8 th was a very special day at work.   It was the first day since November that we had sunshine on the tanks.   It lasted for only 20 minutes, but it was the start...
