Another Move and Our New Bikes
February 16th – March 2nd
We had the last two weeks of February off of work, and we decided that it would be a good time to move houses. We had to be out of Ken and Shelly’s house by April 1st because they were going to be renting it out to some contractors who were coming in to work on the dam, and we wanted to give them extra time to do some projects in the house. We made the move over to Ron’s house over a two-day period, and we had to carry everything down the 27 stairs from the road to the house. The majority of our stuff turned out to be food items, including a fairly well stocked freezer.
The first night that we spent in Ron’s house, our new home, we were pleased to find that the shower had good pressure, the bed was quite comfortable, and the fireplace worked great.
On our first day in our new home we had a wonderful storm move through. We had very heavy and constant rain, and howling wind. We had the perfect storm-watching view.
We watched as the wind blew the rain past in sheets, the waves rolled by bunching up against the water rushing out from the river and creating larger and larger waves, and the seagulls and crows soared together in the wind.
A few days later, when the clouds lifted, we got to truly appreciate our magnificent view that looks straight out towards Ocean Falls and Baldy Mountain with Caro Marion to the left.
It is a lovely home and we have now gotten quite settled in.Once we were all moved in we got to work finishing up the painting that we had to do in Ken and Shelly’s place.
We had the two bedrooms, the bathroom, and the walls of the kitchen to do. We also took advantage of any break in the rain that we got to move some of our firewood. The biggest negative to Ron’s place for us is that he has no real wood storage. Because he is just here for a few weeks, spread out through the year, he does not need much wood storage, and so we needed to figure out something. For the time being at least we are still keeping most of our wood at Ken and Shelly’s since they have no use for the woodsheds at this time. This arrangement means that we have to move our wood from the woodshed at our old place into the truck, then drive to Ron’s house and carry it one bin at a time down the 27 stairs and stack it on his small back deck. One thing though is that it’s quite good exercise.
Near the end of our time off our new bikes arrived in the mail. For several years we had talked about getting fold-up bikes for having on the boat. Our imagination had always been of arriving at some new tropical destination and being able to take the bikes ashore and really explore the area. Now that we were in Ocean Falls we wanted the use of bikes for exploring the many old logging roads, and also as a great way to get to work.
We finally decided to buy folding mountain bikes, and we purchased a couple of Montague Paratrooper Pro bikes, which are only 30lbs and fold up for easy storage on the boat.
We walked down to the end of First Lake and could see the ice line on the lake not far away.
It was lovely to get out for some fun before going back to work.
27 stirs and new bikes! Good for exercise for sure. Enjoy
