2019-04-29 Just Before We Leave

Hey Guys, Well this is it!  It is almost time.  We will be leaving tomorrow, Tuesday April 30, 2019  Yay!! There is one thing that I think is super cool about living on a boat that I thought I would share with you before we head out.  It has to do with flushing the toilet at night.  Our toilet system uses salt water sucked up from the ocean to flush our toilet, and sometimes when you flush the toilet at night you get lucky and you suck up phosphorescence, and the toilet bowl will glow green!  It is so cool!! Some nights there won't be any, other nights there will be a couple glows, and on a lucky night the toilet bowl will light right up with green glowing specs.  I can't wait until we are out at sea and heading south, and we get to truly experience the spectacle of phosphorescence! Anyway, we are pretty much ready, or at least we hopefully will be by the time I post this.  We have been very busy, dealing with our storage space, stowing ever...

2019-04-21 Our Last Haul Out

Image
Hey, I thought I would mention and tell you a little about our last haul out.  We hauled out at Mosquito Creek Marina in November 2018.  Not an ideal time of year weather wise, but it was the time that worked for us.  We had a whole list of work that we wanted to get done, and of course the list grew once we started working.  My parents, my journeyman teacher, Kenny, who is also a friend,  and another friend, Gabriel, all helped us out immensely.  On the list of projects was: stripping the hull of all its many layers of bottom paint, priming with a two-part barrier coat, bottom painting, waxing the hull, installing new thru-hulls, installing new cockpit drains, templating for our swim grid, having welding done on our arch, and making a mounting spot on the new welding for our outboard.  The biggest project that we added after hauling out was to sand, prime, and paint two red stripes on the hull.  We also got new name stickers. Due to the tempe...

2019-04-09 Some History Before We Leave

Image
Hey Everyone, Well we are coming down to the last things to do before we leave. We are hoping to be leaving on the last weekend in April although we have left everything somewhat flexible so that we can stay into May if we decide we need to.   For those of you who don ’t know our plan, we plan to head north along the coast of BC taking our time exploring the many inlets and fjords.  We will either spend a whole year on the coast before heading south, or head south this fall.  When we turn south we plan to sail to Mexico and then probably sail our way down the coast of Central America before making the crossing to Easter Island.  We will cross the South Pacific following the many Islands along the way including French Polynesia.  We plan to spend the hurricane season in New Zealand and then continue on to Australia before heading North towards Japan, and then back around to Alaska and back to BC. Since purchasing the Red Witch in 2012 Jason and I have p...
