Hunting Season

Hello Everyone!

Sorry that it has been so long since I have written anything for the blog.  Jason and I have been very busy with the new house, and we have also been away a lot.  I have considered the main highlights of the last six months and I have come up with some notable moments to share with you.

I believe that my last post was about our Goat Mt. Hike in October. 

 

November 9 - 15, 2021

In November we spent much of the month hunting, and despite the fact that we spent many days exploring different areas in from the nearby inlets we only saw one deer during the entire month, and it was a doe. 

We did, however, have many good hikes exploring different areas that we had not seen before.  With the wall-tent left set up as a base camp in the area of Clatsy Lake, we spent many days hiking the roads and ridges around that area.  We also did some day trips to different spots along the inlet in the hopes of finding some sign of animal life.  
At the start of our last time of the season in at the wall-tent base camp our spirits were high and we were optimistic.  As we rode the quads along one of the accessible logging roads we came to a new slide that had crossed the road.  Over the previous few days that we had been back at home in Ocean Falls there had been strong winds and very heavy rain, so it was not surprising that a new slide had occurred. 
At first it looked like we would not be able to get past the slide with the quads, but upon closer inspection we had gotten lucky.  A massive tree had come down with its root structure ending up in the middle of the road.  Another large cedar had fallen parallel to it, and we were able to walk the quads with just enough room under the first tree and then cut across the road to make it just past the root structure of the other tree.  Thankfully only a small amount of sawing and clearing was required to get by.  We had fun, but no luck with the hunting.

    Just getting out in the beautiful country is special. But getting a deer would have been great for you. Hope to see some of your reno jobs when you are done. Have a great Spring.

Finally Back to the Blog

September 26,  2024 It has been way too long since I have written an update for the blog.   Sorry about that.   Falcon is almost 22 months old, and computer work is a challenging thing to get done with him always wanting to be involved in what I am doing, so needless to say, blog writing has taken a back burner.     Many of you will already know much of what we have been up to over the past year and a bit, but some of you may not, and I thought that either way I would write up some quick summary notes and post some pictures.  Most of the pictures are of Falcon, as he is the love of our lives.    Lucky for us, given that we live in Ocean Falls where it rains a lot, Falcon enjoys being out in the rain.       And he really enjoys climbing into and onto things, perhaps just to see if he can fit.  And, because of his love of climbing, we built him a climbing wall, on which he has gotten quite proficient. A Fantastic Birthday

September 9th (Wednesday) Our first day off after our 8-day shift, and it was also my birthday.  I enjoyed what felt like a nice long sleep-in as compared to getting up at 05:45 for work, and then Jason gave me my birthday presents and made me a delicious brunch of blueberry pancakes, bacon, and sausages.  Then we were off to the lake.  It was a beautiful, sunny day and glassy calm as we planed our way along the lake.  We went down to the south end to check it out and explore, as we had never been down to that end before.   As the sun got hotter we wanted to enjoy it, and to go swimming, so we headed to our perfect picnic and swimming area of Triple Falls.  There we enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of relaxing and swimming.  The water felt quite a bit cooler than it had the last time that we were there, so our refreshing swims were brief. First Things First

November 25, 2024  Our first priority in La Paz was to order our new solar panels.   We had priced them out and sourced them at different locations before getting here, but we were unable to pre-order them before going into the store to pay for them.   Once they were ordered we focused on other things on our to do list, which included getting Falcon to the beachside playground.   He did so well on the slides, and got to go on a "big kid" swing for the first time, and he loves to swing.   We also went for several walks around areas that we knew from the last time that we were here.   One of these included a walk past the Airbnb where Falcon was born.   Almost everyday we visited the El Magote beach, which we knew so well from many long walks previously.
