Updates to the Blog
As we rapidly approach the longest day of the year, summer in Ocean Falls has yet to arrive. Our average temperature so far in June has been between 12-14 degrees and we have had over 90mm of rain, and since January 1st we have had over 2,000mm of rain. So far it is not looking likely that we will have a better summer than last year, but, it is still too early to say for sure and we still have our fingers crossed for a nice July, August and September. For us it is frustrating to watch the weather patterns with the awareness that everywhere south of Port Hardy it has been beautiful weather.
About a month ago, my Mom received a notification from the blog site that we use, that things were going to be changing with the site. One of the main reasons that I chose the site originally was because it offered the ability for readers to subscribe, and that once the subscriber verified the email address the blog site would automatically send out an email notification whenever we made a post. That way everyone would know when there was a new post and wouldn’t have to worry about checking the web site. So far I think that it has worked fairly well for most people, but unfortunately the notification that my Mom got was announcing that this notification feature would no longer be active after July. It always boggles my mind when companies make changes that actually make their service worse; it seems rather backwards to me.
My Mom and I have discussed this issue and we have come up with a solution, or at least a temporary one. Long term I might look at changing to a different blog site, but for now we will stick with this one. My Mom was able to download all of the subscribers’ email addresses and she will now be the one to send out the notification email whenever there is a blog post, however, this does mean that you will then have to go to the actual web site to read the blog post. As far as I know, this particular post will be the last one that will have the automatic-email notification from the web site.
In order to make sure that everyone is aware of the email address that my Mom’s notifications will come from, she will send out a “test” email roughly 24 hours after you receive this. That way you can make note of her email address so that her future email notifications do not end up in your spam box, and it will help you to be aware of what the new notifications will look like. My mom will also include directions in the first “test” email to direct you to confirm your address, change your email address if you wish to, or to opt out of future notifications if you no longer wish to receive the blog post notifications. The emails will come from Darcy and the subject will say Cruising Adventures of the Red Witch Blog. Please look for the “test” email.
It is now June 26, 2021 and I am finishing this up to send to my Mom, and I thought that I had better update you on my weather facts. Summer has arrived!! In fact it arrived on the first day of summer, June 21st and we have had sun, sun, sun since, with sun, sun, sun in the forecast. It is beautiful; hot, but beautiful.
Jason and I are now staying overnight on site during our shifts because we have fish once again. We did not stay on site while fish were here last year because Dave stayed on site, but this year we are on our own shift so we need to be here in case something happens during the night. So far it has been fun, and it is great having fish once again and being back to being farmers. An update on the swallows, they have been very busy. I think the chicks have hatched in one of the houses as I am sure that I heard multiple chirps coming from it, and the parents are coming and going constantly. It is so great to have them around, and I am very happy that I made the houses. They are beautiful birds!
Hope it is not too hot for you this week. Changes, changes. Always something to deal with. Happy summer!
