Doctor Day in Ocean Falls
March 11th and 12th (Wednesday and Thursday)
Wednesday was doctor day in the town of Ocean Falls. Every so often, less frequently in the winter because of the weather, but more frequently in the summer, a doctor and team come by boat to Ocean Falls for the day. The clinic acts somewhat like a walk-in clinic, and people who live here get a chance to see a doctor.
On the main floor of the municipal building there is a room that is equipped with a medical table, some doctor’s tools, first-aid supplies, and an AED. This is where the doctor sees patients, and there is also an area that is set up like a waiting room.
Jason and I were working upstairs, and because it was Wednesday, which is mail day, I went downstairs in the morning to give our next blog letter to Dorothy, so that it would go out on the plane. As I came down I happened to come out of the door at the same time as the doctor and his team were arriving, so I met one of them, and said, “Hi” to the rest of them. They seemed very friendly and nice.
Later in the afternoon, when I came down once again to get our mail that had come in on the floatplane, I saw the doctor’s boat just leaving out Cousins Inlet. As I was talking to Dorothy, Gladys came in. She acts as the receptionist while the doctor is here, and she had a bunch of left over food. Apparently the doctor and his team had brought in food for anyone who came to the clinic, and there was a bunch left over. Gladys offered some of it to us, so we got a bunch of beautiful oranges, some delicious banana bread, and some chicken sandwiches on buns.
While at work that day we finished all of the painting of the entrance/hall area, bathroom, and both bedrooms. We also got the painter's tape pulled off, and all cleaned up. It looks good!
On Thursday we worked on cleaning all of the furniture that we had stored in the living room area, and moved the beds and dressers back into the bedrooms. We then proceeded to move everything, tables, couches, chairs, plates, glasses, cookware, etc. that remained in the living room and kitchen areas, out of the apartment. We moved some of it into the apartment across the hall, and some of it just out into the hallway. We also completely emptied the fully-furnished living room and kitchen in order to be ready to prep that area for painting.
We also have made the decision to stay a little longer in Ocean Falls. Although the weather forecast was for sun, they were also forecasting strong winds and cold temperatures, so we decided that it would be better for us to stay and complete the whole suite, and to make a bit more money. This news, that we had decided to stay, made Gladys happy as she was hoping that we would have time to complete the suite.
Good to get leftovers on Doctor day. Bravo for the work you are doing.
