The trip from Bahia Chamela to the Bahia Matanchen anchorage near the
town of San Blas where we would be hauling out our boat was approximately 150
nautical miles. We broke the trip up
into three separate days and we had the perfect weather window with no north
winds. We actually had minimal winds,
but we did get some time of southwest and west winds each day to help push us
along on our journey northwards. The
first day that we headed out from Bahia Chamela the seas were still quite large
and lumpy, left over from the northwest winds that had not died down until
early in the morning.
With our fishing
lines out we caught four Bonitos. We only
kept one small one because Bonito is best eaten fresh. The other three that we caught were probably
the largest Bonito that we had ever caught, but luckily they were easy to
release. After catching all four Bonito
we stopped fishing as each time that we caught a fish we had to slow down and
deal with the lines and the fish. We
decided that since we had one fish for dinner we would not keep fishing even
though we were hoping to catch a Mahi Mahi on route to San Blas. We saw quite a few turtles on our travels
that day and also two very large pods of dolphins. One of them came towards us and passed us by
on the starboard side. The other one
came up behind us, but they were not going much faster than we were and took
quite a while to catch up. Jason saw two
dolphins come towards that large pod and then all of a sudden the entire pod
turned around and headed full speed back in the direction that they had
come. Perhaps the scouts had found food?
Dolphins are great communicators! Your adventures have been great to read and watch Falcon grow. I enjoy your blog very much. Hope you continue and keep us all up to date on your journeys and Falcon's growth.❤️
