Heading North

March 26, 2025

March has felt like the end of summer to us.  The weather has gotten colder, the nights are down to 14 degrees and although the daytime highs are still up to 30 degrees the morning and evening air has a chill that makes it feel like fall.
We spoke with one local Mexican today who said that this was normal weather for March.
March has also been the month that the majority of cruisers have been heading back north, or moving on further south; many people whom we have seen on and off throughout our time here have now fully moved on for the season.
With our own planned departure date approaching, it definitely feels like the end of a season, which has felt very much like summer to us.
Ever since the evening before Falcon’s second birthday in December, when we had a beach fire hotdog roast, Falcon has talked about it.  So, after the majority of boats left the anchorage here we decided to have an evening fire hotdog roast once again.
Falcon was very excited and loved collecting the firewood, setting the fire, eating on the beach while covered in sand, and watching the stars come out.
In December it was just after sunset when he told us that he was tired and asked to go home to bed, this time we all sat together and enjoyed watching the planets and stars come out, as well as the satellites pass overhead before he got tired.

Our paddle back home to the boat was beautiful as the bioluminescence was dramatic.  Each paddle stroke lit up in a ribbon of light and each individual light was visible like a star in the Milky Way.  The bioluminescence has gotten dramatically more impressive in the last week of March.  Standing outside on our deck at night we admire a gorgeous view of the sky filled with stars almost horizon to horizon above and below us a muted green fireworks display in the water as fish dart about creating explosions and streamers of light.  It is quite spectacular.  What a beautiful world!

We plan to do one last beach fire hotdog roast here on March 29th before our current planned departure on April 1st, weather dependent.  We will have been here at anchor in Tenacatita for three months, and it will be a bittersweet goodbye.  On the one hand we are looking forward to life back in a house with lots of room to move about in, a large kitchen, hot running water, and green grass, but we will definitely miss the warm air, warm water, sandy beaches, surfing, full sky view, and abundant wildlife.  Either way, our journey northwards will be beginning soon.

  1. Beautifully written. You filled my mind with the vision of your time on the beach and the sights you see. When you get home make sure you have your winter clothes, we are still getting frost...🤣 You are probably back in BC and know how cold it is this spring. Welcome home.❤️
