Our Last Day at Isla Isabel

December 20, 2024
We spent our third and last day at Isla Isabel just enjoying our beach area.
It was a relaxing day of watching all of the life around us.  There was constant whale activity just outside of the anchorage and I managed to get a picture of our boat with a breaching humpback whale, a blue-footed booby bird, and a Frigate bird all in one shot.
We knew from watching the Frigate birds in La Paz that they could be the biggest bullies.
Here was no exception as we watched time and time again when a Frigate bird would spot a booby bird returning to land with fish, and the Frigate bird would gang up and harass the booby bird, chasing it down to the water until it spat up its catch, at which point the Frigate bird would let the booby bird go, and scoop up all of the dead floating fish.
With the number of Frigate birds constantly watching for an easy meal it was amazing that the booby birds survived here at all.  Clearly some managed to return to the nest with a full meal of fish, but we felt sorry for the booby birds as we watched what appeared to be a constant assault.
That night, as the wind calmed off, the rock and roll was the worst that it had been.  That day's wind had been the strongest and must have picked up a bigger sea state because we sure rocked around that night.  We were ready to pull up anchor and leave in the morning.

  2. Such a beautiful place. The wild life is stunning. I enjoy the photos and reading about your adventures. Thank you for sharing. We still have 6inches of snow and it was minus 11 last night so I hope you think of me as you sit in the warm sun. Take care.
