Time at Punta Chivato
November
6th - 8th, 2024
We
had one calm day at the Punta Chivato anchorage and we took full advantage of
it. Jason and I both did some snorkelling,
and we had a great time on shore enjoying the beach and the water. The other days that we spent anchored there
the north winds blew, and as the steep waves and white caps rolled on past
outside of the anchorage we waited for the next calmer time to sail on further
south. As the gusts of wind blew over
the land and hit our boat making the snubber line pull tight on our anchor
chain, and the howl of the wind passed through our rigging, we kayaked the
short distance into shore against the wind each day and spent the days enjoying
land. We explored the abandoned resort
that we had visited last time that we were in Punta Chivato, and Falcon had a
great time looking through the old buildings and finding his own treasures,
like a handful of loose screws. One of
the days, after a lovely picnic under a windy palm tree, we explored the beach
further along and found another abandoned resort that we had not found on our
previous visit. It was beautiful inside
with ornate artwork on the walls, solid wood doors, cabinetry with carvings,
and beautiful tile mosaics. Falcon found
a real treasure here; it was a large remote for an old TV, a perfect remote "to
make calls with". He happily walked
around with it up to his ear saying, “Hello, hello”.
When we were at the beach on our last day at Punta Chivato we saw fish jumping out from shore. Seeing tiny to small 8-10” fish jumping is a very common occurrence as some, usually unseen, predator fish chases them, but this time we watched as the large school of roughly 8” fish jumped and jumped coming closer and closer to shore. Suddenly they were literally jumping into inches of water right at the beach, and then the predator fish was there after them. It was a large Roosterfish, and it was eagerly snapping up the fish before they all turned and swam out into deeper water. It was very cool to see the action up close and in such clear water. When it was all over Falcon said, “Another”, asking for it to happen again.

Wow, what an adventure! Love the treasures that Falcon found ...who needs toys when you have a good imagination. Beautiful photos!
