Our Type of Anchorage

October 26, 2024
Our next anchorage was truly our type of anchorage; it was Bahia San Pedro.
There was not a building in sight, and the only other people were onboard one other sailboat that shared the anchorage with us.  There was a beach that stretched over a mile long, and beautiful rock formations were all around, with the mountains fringed by large cacti.  Pelicans, Boobie Birds, Gulls, and Frigate birds frequented the shoreline to feed, and we could watch schools of little fish leaping from the water that were being pursued by predator fish below the surface.
We arrived at this beautiful spot early in the morning, and were anchored by around 9am, so after packing a picnic lunch we kayaked to shore.  We landed, once again, in the swells.  The way that we go ashore in the swells with Falcon is that Jason goes ashore in his kayak first.  He then gets out of the kayak and takes it up onto dry land, and then he meets Falcon and I when we come in.  This way Jason can pick Falcon up out of my kayak while I hop out and deal with my kayak and paddle.  We then do this in reverse when getting into the kayak to leave the shore.  So far it has worked well.
This beach was the first time that Falcon has ever gotten to play in swells, and it was nice because on the first day that we got there the waves were a nice size for playing in.
After our first day the waves calmed off a lot, but on that first day we had a lot of fun.  It was the happiest that we have ever seen Falcon, and for several hours we played.
He stomped the water, shrieked with glee, ran around saying “happy, happy, happy, happy”, giggled and laughed, and just wanted to explore and be in the water.
He walked over half of the length of the beach and back again, playing in the surf, finding rocks and sticks, watching the pelicans, grabbing sand, and playing.
It was a great day, and he sure was tired by the time we went back to the Red Witch.  Falcon did have a nap that day.

  1. Sounds like a dream! You and Jason have chosen a life that gives Falcon a chance to see and explore a beautiful world that most will never see. He is a lucky boy.

  2. It made me smile to think of Falcon running around saying "happy, happy, happy happy". Sounds like a most fun day.
