A New Woodshed
We
chose to remain in Canada over this past winter while our sailboat remained on land
in Mexico. With this extended length of
time in Ocean Falls we had the chance to do a lot of work for other people, and
to also get a lot of projects completed on our own property.
The
woodshed that came with our house was long and narrow, and had a very low
ceiling. This low ceiling was quite
annoying, as it required that we remain bent over at all times to move wood
around. On top of that, it had been
built directly onto the ground, resulting in much of the shed becoming very
rotten, and the heavy snowfall over the winter of 2022 when we were in Mexico
was not kind to its structural integrity.
Therefore, one of our high-priority projects was to build a new and
bigger woodshed.
We
started by removing all of our dry firewood from inside, and then Jason proceeded
to take the old woodshed apart. This
required that he carry much of it up the 29 steps to our alley, and haul it away
to the dump, although some of the old wood he was able to burn at our
place.
Finally,
with a big enough area alongside of our house now opened up, Jason was able to
plan and start building our new woodshed, which he did with a combination of
pallets that we got from the fish farm, and some solid old planks that we had
kept from the deck that we had torn out the year before.
In
the end, our woodshed now takes up a lot less space and has a lot more
headroom, as well as plenty of wood storage inside.
Once the new woodshed was completed, Jason
finished the deconstruction and removal of the old shed.
One
big job was now off of the list, with a new job added, that of filling the new
shed with wood.
Wow, big job. Way to go you guys.
