Leaving La Paz
March
1, 2023
Early
in the morning on March 1, 2023 we pulled up our anchor from the La Paz harbour
and headed out. We radioed the port
captain, and in Spanish we told him that we were leaving La Paz with three
people on board, headed for Guaymas, with no return date. We were excited to be leaving, but it also
felt like we were leaving a home, Falcon’s hometown, where a lot had
happened. With zero wind all day we motored
our way over inky, glassy-calm water up to Isla San Francisco. Just as we were b-lining our way northwards,
the warm water was just starting to return to the southern part of the Sea of
Cortez and wildlife was easy to spot with the glassy calm seas. We saw two whale sharks, several turtles,
lots of jumping rays, and several rays swimming near by.
Seeing the jumping rays always makes me laugh
as they hurtle themselves up and out of the water, sometimes quite high,
probably about four feet. They flip wildly
and then slap back onto the water's surface in whatever position they happen to
be in. They look incredibly awkward
above water, and are much more comical looking than graceful.
Since getting word that Falcon’s Canadian
passport was on its way we had been very busy preparing to leave La Paz and the
three of us were quite tired. We were
happy to arrive and anchor at Isla San Francisco, and with the two days of
strong northerly winds forecasted to start the next day, we knew we had a few
days to rest before we would be moving on.
I loved following your adventure,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the special moments you had on your travels and especially becoming a mum.
Love seeing pics of Falcon. It must be nice moving on after your adventures in La Paz.
