Falcon

December 13, 2022
In the spring of 2022 Jason and I decided that we wanted to give birth to our child in Mexico.  After a lot of research, which included talking to many other Moms, we chose the town of La Paz on the Baja Peninsula.  In August 2022 we left Ocean Falls on our sailboat and began our journey southwards.  After a roughly 5,000-kilometer migration, similar to that of many humpback whales, we arrived in our birthing grounds at the beginning of November.
The warm waters and sunny warm days made the final month of pregnancy a pleasant experience and we kept busy with many projects on the boat, long beach walks daily, and almost daily swimming.
On December 13, 2022 at 5:33 pm, Falcon Aksel Dalgaard Eno Tanner was born in La Paz, with midwives in attendance.  He was healthy and well, and weighed 7lbs 10oz.

We were fortunate that my labour was quick and fairly painless, and I have had a speedy recovery.
At five days old we brought Falcon home to the boat, and now Falcon is just over a month old and we have all settled into life together.

On the day before Falcon’s birth we were out enjoying the sun and towing Jason on his foil board behind Kiki, and when Falcon was just ten days old we were back out in Kiki together, towing Jason behind on the board.
The main difference with our second outing was that Falcon was actually physically in Kiki, as opposed to inside my womb.
We have had a very busy first month of Falcon’s life, which has included many fun beach days,
Christmas spent with Gramma and Grandpa,
and also a week with my brother and his wife who came to Mexico from the UK.
We went on two roads trips, with one of them being going over to Punta Arena de La Ventana where we got to cross over the mountains and see the very cool, cactus-filled desert landscape.
On the other road trip with my family we went to Cabo San Lucas to go to the Canadian consulate to apply for Falcon’s Canadian citizenship and passport.  On the way back to La Paz we stopped at a lovely beach on the Pacific side of the Baja peninsula.  The water was warm, the waves were beautiful, and from shore we were able to watch some whales breaching.

We have been slowly navigating our way through the complicated process of obtaining all of Falcon’s papers and we now have his Mexican birth certificate, and have also applied for his Mexican passport.
Falcon enjoys rides in Kiki and usually falls asleep or at least sits quite contentedly in his carrier.
He is a very calm baby who sleeps well and travels well, and we are enjoying watching him change and grow.
