A Warm Holiday
January 1st - February 12, 2022
Between January 1st and March 27th Jason and I spent less than two weeks at home in Ocean Falls. After a lovely visit with my family at the beginning of January, Jason and I flew to Mexico for a month.
We rented a car and stayed in the very small Mexican town of Xul-Ha, about a 15-minute drive away from the Caribbean coast, and less than that away from the Belize border. The place that we rented was only a three-minute walk away from a beautiful, turquoise-blue, freshwater lagoon, and we were in the water, either fresh or salt, almost every day that we were in Mexico. For the entire month I never felt cold. It was paradise, and the much-needed rest into the sun and heat that both Jason and I needed. Having a rental car for the month allowed us to drive to places that we wanted to explore.
Sadly, on February 4th we flew back to the cold and wet of BC. The next week flew by while we managed to squeeze in a short visit with friends in Vancouver, a visit with my grandfather in Okanagan Falls, and then back to Victoria to pack to be ready to head back to Ocean Falls. Since we did not have our truck out with us due to BC Ferries cancelling the Northern Sea Wolf ferry on our departure date, we had to be very selective about what necessities were the priority to take home with us. We did our best to figure out what supplies we needed for the work that we wanted to do on the house.
Then, on February 12th, with a rented SUV packed full of as many supplies as we could take, we drove to Port Hardy to catch the ferry, as foot passengers, back to Ocean Falls. Because renting a car one way is incredibly expensive compared to a same-location return, my parents drove us up to Port Hardy, dropped us, Jiji, and all of our stuff off at the ferry terminal, and then drove back down to Victoria the same day so as to help us save several hundred dollars.
Oh that sunshine and warm weather! so great that you got a break from our cold and wet.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a warm climate when it's a cold wet winter in BC.
