A Lovely Sunny Day

March 25th (Thursday)

On one particularly nice day, in fact, it was the nicest day that we had had all year, we enjoyed the sunshine. 

It was also incredibly calm on the water so we wanted to go fishing.  We got all of our gear together and headed to Little Red.  We started the engine, untied the lines, and pushed off, but when we put the engine into reverse, nothing happened.  What?  Into neutral and back into reverse, still nothing.  Weird.  Jason played with the cable and suddenly we were in forward gear, so we slowly came back into the slip and bumped up against the dock.  I hopped off with the bowline while Jason tried to figure out how to get it back into neutral.  It turned out that the shift cable had broken almost right where it goes into the engine.  We tied up the boat again and looked at our conundrum, and then decided that we would be asking for trouble to go out on the water with the broken cable.  So, we headed back home.

Instead of going fishing, we went for a bike ride out to first lake and sat by the water in the sun. 

It was warm and lovely.  When we got back home we washed and cleaned our truck with the beautiful view of Caro Marion and Baldy Mountain as our backdrop. 
We went back to Little Red in the evening to measure out how long of a cable we needed so that we could order a new one.  When we first got the boat working last year the cables were run in such a way that it kinked the cables at the engine and they barely moved at all.  We had removed them, lubed them up, and massaged out the kink to get them to run smoothly again.   When we reinstalled them, we ran them quite differently so that they would no longer kink and cause a problem, but it was at this old kink location that the shift cable had now broken.  We needed longer cables in order to run them neatly and properly.  With our desired measurement in hand we headed home.

A Fantastic Birthday

September 9th (Wednesday) Our first day off after our 8-day shift, and it was also my birthday.  I enjoyed what felt like a nice long sleep-in as compared to getting up at 05:45 for work, and then Jason gave me my birthday presents and made me a delicious brunch of blueberry pancakes, bacon, and sausages.  Then we were off to the lake.  It was a beautiful, sunny day and glassy calm as we planed our way along the lake.  We went down to the south end to check it out and explore, as we had never been down to that end before.   As the sun got hotter we wanted to enjoy it, and to go swimming, so we headed to our perfect picnic and swimming area of Triple Falls.  There we enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of relaxing and swimming.  The water felt quite a bit cooler than it had the last time that we were there, so our refreshing swims were brief. First Things First

November 25, 2024  Our first priority in La Paz was to order our new solar panels.   We had priced them out and sourced them at different locations before getting here, but we were unable to pre-order them before going into the store to pay for them.   Once they were ordered we focused on other things on our to do list, which included getting Falcon to the beachside playground.   He did so well on the slides, and got to go on a "big kid" swing for the first time, and he loves to swing.   We also went for several walks around areas that we knew from the last time that we were here.   One of these included a walk past the Airbnb where Falcon was born.   Almost everyday we visited the El Magote beach, which we knew so well from many long walks previously.
