Running Water
May 26th (Tuesday)
We have running water!!!
We now have an endless supply of drinking water! For the last couple of months John has been hard at work trying to get into motion the repair process for having running water on the docks. At the end of last year they had some issues with the water, but left it until after the winter to fix them. Because of this we had been making water once every week here at dock, just as we did last year out at anchor. Yesterday, when we got home from work, John had left us a note saying, “Go for it”.
We hooked up the water and turned on our hot water heater. When we are making our own water we do not use the hot water heater because it is a large waste of water to run it through the taps to get hot. We do turn it on for shower-time, or let the engine heat the water tank when we are motoring, but otherwise it remains unused. So now, after almost 13 months, we have an endless supply of running water, and hot running water once again. Yay!
Today was our first day off after our shift. It was lovely to sleep in and relax, but we also had some things that we wanted to get done so we ended up getting busy. Jason suited up in his wetsuit and we set up our snooba. He hopped in the water to clean the bottom of our boat, and he ended up just having to remove some barnacles from our prop and one clump of muscles from our transducer. The rest of the bottom of the boat was clean with just a thin layer of slime.
While he was in the water he also dove and collected us some sea cucumbers to have with supper. Yay!

And, while swimming down along the bottom he picked up two bottles and a bowl that he saw. Once he was back up on the dock and out of his gear, we had a better look at them. One of the bottles appeared to be fairly new, but the other two items looked older. The bowl was particularly interesting because it was marked “made in Japan”.
This is interesting because just up from the marina is where the old Japanese town area of Ocean Falls used to be. Eventually it was bulldozed for other development and from talking to residents, many of the old relics from the buildings can still be found under the water in this area. It is interesting to think about Japanese people living here and using this bowl many years ago.
We pulled our outboard off of Kiki and hauled her up onto the dock for a good bottom cleaning as well. While she was up on the dock we also gave her a clean on the inside, and then back into the water she went and we put the outboard back on.
It was a productive day.
Dinner on the dock with a beautiful view.
