A Day at Kisameet Lake
November 19th (Tuesday)
In the morning we packed ourselves a hot lunch, and headed ashore in our kayaks. Yesterday, after going to the lake, we had decided to carry our kayaks up to the lake so that we could explore the area. We chose not to bother deflating our kayaks, and instead decided to carry them up. The trail wound this way and that between trees and over old fallen logs, so we were not able to simply carry the kayaks over our heads as we had done at Sager Lake. Instead, we carried them, one at a time together, one person at the front and one at the back, so that we could weave our way along the trail. We carried one kayak part way, put it down beside the trail, went back and got the other one, hiked on past the first one a ways, put it down, and went back. In this way we leap-frogged our way up the trail until we made it to the lake.
It was a beautiful, cold, sunny morning. We paddled the sunny shoreline, Jason trolling for trout the whole time.
Although we had seen the trout surfacing yesterday evening, there was almost no action today. Jason did catch one, but sadly it got off when he was trying to get it into the kayak. A little net would definitely come in handy for fishing from the kayak. The water in the lake was very high and although we saw many areas that would have been nice spots to stop for lunch at lower water, with the high water there were none. We ended up nosing the bows of our kayaks up onto a fallen tree that was sticking out from shore in the sunshine and then just floating to have our lunch.
It was a lovely day of exploring, but we were also happy to get home in the evening and get a fire going, as it had remained cold all day, even in the sun.
Nothing better than fresh caught trout over a fire. Good luck with catching some next time you trek up to the lake.
