To Discovery Bay from Beals Bay
October 10th (Thursday)
In the morning we were ready to head out shortly after the sun was up. It was another chilly, clear, beautiful morning. It was minus 2 degrees in Bella Bella, plus one in our cockpit, and we had frost and ice on the deck. We had to be careful moving around out on the deck because it was actually quite slippery. We had decided that since they were forecasting up to 40 knots of wind from the southeast for tomorrow that we would move anchorages today.
We pulled up our crab trap before leaving, and were not surprised when it was empty. We kept the bait, and left the trap set up to be able to reset it at our next anchorage. We moved to the area between Meadow Island, Cypress Island, and Rainbow Island which is just out from Shearwater. We set the anchor, set the crab trap, and then headed to Shearwater with all of our gas and diesel jerry cans, propane tank, laundry, garbage, and recycling. We dealt with our garbage and recycle, got all three fuels, did our laundry, got a few items at the chandlery, got a few groceries, and also picked up our mail. It is always exciting to get our mail, especially when there is a letter waiting for us. It’s just like in the old days when people used to send and receive actual paper mail. It’s nice!
Back at our boat we got ready to head out. When we pulled up our crab trap before leaving, we were very excited to have four Dungeness crabs. One was a female, one was a male that was too small to keep, and the other two were nice-sized keepers. Yay! It has been a long time since we have had a crab dinner. We decided that we would cook them up, but save them for the next day, and I put on a batch of bread so that we could have a fresh-bread-and-crab dinner tomorrow. Mmmm.
It was an incredibly beautiful day; glassy-calm water and clear blue sky. We motored up to Discovery Bay, and saw three whales on our way. It was easy to spot them over the glassy water, and we watched as they surfaced a few times before diving, one after the other.

Jelly fish dot the water
Interesting about the jellyfish. I can't answer your questions about them. And yes, it is great to get a letter in the mail.
